Mauritius Beaches

The tropical climate and warm Indian Ocean waters of Mauritius Island create an idyllic beach holiday experience, which is why so many of the most renowned Hotels and Resorts for holiday accommodation rest on the foot of these picturesque beachfronts.

The Island of Mauritius is largely formed by volcanic eruptions which have resulted in the surrounding lagoons and coral reefs that almost entirely present around all the stunning beaches of Mauritius – these naturally overflowing corals attract hundreds of colourful fish and as such Mauritius is popular for having one of the richest marine life constellations in the world, truly a natural wonder.

Water activities, most especially snorkelling, are incredibly popular in Mauritius. During in the summer months an abundance of migrating fish adds to the already profound variety of sea species that shimmer under the shallow waters near the coastline, as well as the unique and flourishing fauna and flora.

Trou aux Biches Beach

The Trou aux Biches beach is considered one of the best beaches in Mauritius, situated at the North West end of the island. With wonderful soft white shores, this 2km stretch of beach is protected by the coral reef which attracts a variety of brightly coloured fish, perfect for snorkelling. This beach displays some spectacular Mauritian sunsets and is regularly enjoyed by sunbathers and swimmers, too. Easily accessible due to the bus station that is right in front of it, Trou aux Biches is only a few kilometres from other popular beaches like Grand Bay and is also close to a number of lovely cafes and restaurants.

Flic en Flac Beach

One of the longest beaches in Mauritius, Flic en Flac (meaning 'Free and Flat Land' in Dutch) is an amazing beach with gorgeous azure blue waters, calm waves and breathtaking colourful sunsets over the ocean, which ignite the sky into beautiful deep shades of blue, purple and orange hues – it is not uncommon to find photographers and tourists snapping photos of this, but the true beauty is seen by taking it all in with your own eyes. This beach is completely protected by coral reef and is popular for swimming as the currents are not strong. Snorkelling is also popular in the Flic en Flac Ocean, with Sea Urchin being very common among the underwater fauna and flora in this area. On occasional, dolphins can also be observed from this beach.

Blue Bay Beach

It is quiet impossible to take a bad photo of this breathtaking beach, situated on the South East of Mauritius close to the port city of Mahebourg. Blue Bay Beach is famous for its contrasting colours and crystal clear water that presents many different shades of blue from various angles, a sight that is both fascinating and alluring. The Blue Bay Beach is famous for its Blue Bay Marine Park which is the biggest marine park in Mauritius; a visit to this area will surely result in some of the best snorkelling and discovery of some unique fauna and flora, as an ideal spot which is home to a wealth of fish species.

Mont Choisy Beach

An awe inspiring 3 km stretch of pure white beaches and alluring turquoise blue ocean waters, Mont Choisy bends around the coast and creates a bay of beautiful warm sparkling water, with large Casuarina trees lining the background and offering guests plenty of natural shade under green leaves. Families can spend long days on this beach soaking up the sunshine and being captivated by the stunning surrounding views of endless ocean. As with most of the beaches in Mauritius, Mont Choisy is popular with snorkelers who are curious to discover the wonderful and unique sea life in the coral reefs and lagoons. Many visitors enjoy leisurely strolls along Mont Choisy's soft sands.

Belle Mare Beach

One of the most popular and beautiful beaches in Mauritius and known for its calm, tranquil ice blue waters and nearly powder white sandy shores, visitors to this beach are often left speechless when met by its natural splendour. A number of stylish beachfront resorts and hotels lie on the edges of this beach, to ensure that holiday guests have every opportunity to venture out onto these beaches and create memories with their loved ones. A number of wonderful restaurants surround this beach and it is easy to enjoy a selection of water sports here too.

Tamarin Beach

Tamarin Beach was named after the Tamarind trees that were planted here by early Dutch Settlers. Tamarin Beach and well as Tamarin Bay are both very popular for the likes of swimming and surfing on the island, among both locals and tourists. This beach is actually the only surfing beach in Mauritius between the months of June and September. Another highlight when enjoying the beauty of Tamarin Beach is the dolphins that frequent this area and attract large crowds. Of course, the Indian Ocean waters are warm and with the ever present sun shining overhead, visitors can easily spend their entire day lounging about on the beachfront or engaging in popular water-based adventures.

Pereybere Beach

A small and enchanting beach that offers holiday goers relaxation and blissful tranquillity, Pereybere Beach can be found between Grand Baie and Cap Malheureux in the northern part of the gorgeous Mauritius Island. This beach is truly spectacular and is surrounded by large tropical trees which compliment the scenery and add to the picturesque beauty. Visitors to the Pereybere beach are always blown away by the magnificent azure blue waters that are perfect for swimming, scuba diving, deep sea fishing and even some adventurous kayaking.
